Are you working with a disability?  Check out these 8 tips to make your job search and work life easier.

 

Know the laws that protect your rights.  The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (and here in Minnesota, the Minnesota Human Rights Act) are the major pieces of legislation that protect individuals with disabilities.  What do these laws say?  In terms of employment, the laws prohibit discrimination in recruitment, hiring, firing, pay, training, job assignments, promotions, benefits, and leave, and “all other employment related activities.”

How to Handle “The Salary Question”

When applying for jobs, you’re almost certain to get this question at some point or another:

 

“What are your salary expectations?”

 

Sometimes the question is on an application form; sometimes an employer will ask you outright.  The question could be phrased a little differently, like “Tell us your salary requirements” or “what was your previous salary?”  No matter how it’s phrased, the motivation behind it is usually the same:  employers want you to name a salary because it tells them a lot about how to proceed.
