Health care is one of the fastest growing industries with many in-demand occupations. By 2020, the health care industry is projected to reach over 22 million jobs in the United States.  Health care careers are available for all levels of skill and education.

This week, the American Association of Community Colleges launched a new online career exploration website to help jobseekers enter the health care field. Known as the Virtual Career Network, the site allows users to:

  • explore health care careers
  • assess interest, aptitude and readiness for these careers
  • find local training programs
  • take online courses
  • earn credit for prior learning
  • find local jobs

The Virtual Career Network can be used by jobseekers looking to explore their options in health care.  Career counselors will also benefit from this website. Comprehensive occupational information on over 80 careers is available, including 11 careers which require less than one year of education and 37 careers which require a two-year degree. You can also view a 15-minute video demo of the Virtual Career Network.

Virtual Career Network

The American Association of Community Colleges and its partners developed the Virtual Career Network through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. iSeek Solutions is a key partner on the project, contributing its expertise in online tools for career exploration and job search. iSeek Solutions will leverage the Virtual Career Network to develop a Minnesota-specific healthcare careers website that will launch later this year.  Additional partners in the national VCN project include: American Council on Education, Department of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Lab, Direct Employers Association, ed2go, Jobs for the Future, National Association of State Workforce Agencies, National Association of Workforce Boards, The American Dental Education Association and XPAND Corporation.
