Teens in Northeast: Opportunities Abound!

With schools nearing the conclusion of another year and students making their summer plans, it’s a great time to look at the job market and employment opportunities for teenagers.

Teenagers provide a welcome bump in the available labor force across the state, with Minnesota having the seventh-highest labor force participation rate for teenagers in the country, at 48.5%. Nationally, the teen labor force participation rate is about 33%, according to the most recent data from the Current Population Survey. Continue reading

16,000 Strong – Southeast’s Teen Workforce

Teenagers provide a welcome bump in the available labor force across Minnesota, having the seventh-highest labor force participation rate for teenagers in the country, at 48.5%.

The labor force participation rate was even higher for teens in Southeast Minnesota, where over 56% of people aged 16-19 were in the labor force over the last 5 years. That was just over 16,000 teenage workers; about 6% of the total labor force. Continue reading

Southeast MN Having Brighter Days

Southeast Minnesota has certainly seen its share of plights as a result the most recent recession.  An unemployment rate of 8.7% hit in March of 2009, with the highest annual unemployment rate of 7.6% recorded for that same year.  Luckily, the region saw a drop of its annual unemployment rate to 4.7% in 2013 with that November having the lowest at 2.8% since December of 2000.   Continue reading
